I stayed up way past my bedtime last night. (I generally require a solid eight hours of sleep to function properly). Because of this, I contemplated skipping class this morning. I’m quite glad though that I forced myself to open my eyes and drag my tired butt out of bed.
The guest speaker in my reporting class this morning was Jacqui Banaszynski. I’ve only heard her guest lecture a few times, but I always enjoy what she has to say. She just. knows. so. much. And I always find myself captivated by whatever aspect of journalism she may be talking about.
I noticed at the beginning of class that she had an “I Love Lucy” clip on her desktop and was hoping it had something to do with the lecture and we would get to watch it. While it was not related to the lecture (which was about tone and structure if you were wondering), she did indulge us at the end of class.
I’ve seen this episode a number of times, but never have I felt this clip accurately reflects my life – until today. There’s so much going on right now. The semester is half over and everyone is scrambling to get everything done. It’s the time of the year when we all (I think I can accurately say we, as I know I’m not the only one here) start to feel like Lucy and Ethel. There’s so much coming down the conveyor belt so quickly we can hardly keep up with it – much less keep our sanity.
If you’re feeling the same way, I highly suggest you take a break for 1.5 minutes and watch. Nothing like a little humor to help de-stress.
